Brokeback Mountain is the story of two lonely cowboys, played by an incredible cast, who meet up on a farm and slowly transform into each other’s lovers. It’s a great movie, and I recommend it to anyone who loves cinema.
Brokeback Mountain is an interesting and absorbing look at a relationship between two men who are unfairly prevented from being together due to society. It is a beautifully made film, but also one that is heart warming. I recommend it to those who enjoy moving, intelligent pictures as well as those who enjoy love.
Brokeback Mountain is a beautiful, epic love story, with a cast including some of Hollywoods most beloved stars. It is a somber and heartbreaking story that is both thought provoking and heartbreaking.
For reasons that are still not clear to me, I find the ending of “Brokeback Mountain” oddly unsatisfying. There’s a nice homage to “Grapes of Wrath” and our own history of slavery – with Brokeback Mountain’s two cowboys as the new “Wobblies”. But why did these two extremely “modern” men ever agree to the “love experiment”?!? More importantly, why did we the audience find this movie endearing?!? The movie has a large cast – having seen the movie twice, I have no idea who everyone was – but my guess is that these 2 back-stories are only the beginning of an entire mythology.
I had seen Brokeback Mountain in a movie theater in Seattle, as I usually do for every film. I enjoyed it enough to remember bits that came back to me later (“Brokeback Mountain” is not just a film about two bulls getting it on, but about the rugged characters the filmmakers brought up in their films). But as I wrote at the time, it suffered from trying to do too many things at once: without a strong enough plot, it could have used “Pulp Fiction” style interpolations to keep the movie moving forward. I don’t think any of us could accuse this film of being subtle. It’s not so much a film as a collection of sequences, with elements tacked together for the sake of length.
