History

Objects
An object is a node within a drawing consisting of lines, arcs, and Bézier curves. Objects can also include shapes, tables, dimensions, legends, and title blocks.
By default, when you import an AutoCAD drawing file into AutoCAD, all imported objects are converted into dimensions, grids, and splines. This can significantly increase the file size of a drawing. In a later AutoCAD release, the new “Import and Split Objects” option was introduced to retain the original, unaltered geometry of objects.
The easiest way to move objects is by simply selecting them and dragging them to a new location. Once selected, press “G” (for “Grab”) and drag the objects to the new location. A dimension also has an ALIGN command which controls the axis alignment of a dimension relative to a visual reference, such as a baseline. Dimensions and shapes can be marked as hidden in the dimension styles. This feature is commonly used to create hidden, internal dimensions that are visible on the viewport and in external dimensions that are visible on the ribbon.
