Our testing and reviews have shown we typically prefer GeForce cards over AMD options. Our drivers work better and we’re confident we can provide better performance and the best overall gaming experience. We’ll keep this in mind if we ever test the RX 590 against the GTX 1060. If you’re a gamer and want great gaming, we recommend a GeForce GTX graphics card.

When I tried to install the Catalyst driver everything went smoothly. I tried to change the power profile back to the AMD default but it gets stuck at a black screen after a restart. I can still change the power profile though but it has no effect. My computer can use more than one power profile and right now I’m using the performance profile for my machine.

As a result, the Linux drivers we’ve received the most feedback from are our open-source ones. These are the Mesa/Gallium version of the driver (which is the new open source drivers), the AMD version (which is the old open-source drivers), and the official AMD driver (the one from To keep things simple, we’re only going to talk about the open source drivers here.

As you might have noticed from AMD’s screenshots, they also have a Linux client that you can install. This one doesn’t use the open source drivers, though. It has the Proprietary AMD-FTW driver that’s available for Windows and Mac OS X. It’s been around since before FidelityFX, but there’s not much we can say about it. It’s obviously proprietary, and I don’t think it uses any of the features of FidelityFX. It also comes with a bunch of other stuff you may not care about.

Additionally, the design of the Dell XPS 15 9570 means that it’s more than just a premium laptop. Its solid aluminum chassis feels good in hand, and it feels like a quality product. We also love its fingerprint scanner on the back right-hand side. I travel a lot, and it’s great that I can quickly and easily log into any Windows computer with my fingerprint for a secure session. Bottom Line: The Dell XPS 15 9570 is not quite a laptop for gamers, but if you’re someone who doesn’t need a beastly graphics card to handle 4K gaming, it’s an excellent option with great build quality, long-lasting performance, good screen quality, and great battery life. Conclusion: The Dell XPS 15 is a sturdy, stylish notebook that’s capable of handling any workload, including a 4K screen, a competent graphics card, and an SSD drive. The 15-inch machine itself is pricey, but it’s worth it for the value that you get with this machine. For example, I just installed a fresh Ubuntu 16.04 LTS on my workstation, and I was able to run just fine. Now, I run tests on the A8 5500m using both Radeon and Intel graphics, and AMD outperformed Intel in my tests. Looking forward to just how well this AMD APU with Radeon HD graphics will run in an actual game. I’ll update the review and report back when I’ve used it for a while. Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast : This game uses the OpenArena game engine. It supports a number of different renderers, but I’ve been running it with DX9 API and Direct3D. DX9 is a little laggy in games like this, but Direct3D runs at native, full-speed.  5ec8ef588b
